JUST A LITTLE LESS OBVOIUS
i confess, tonight i'm dressed up in gold
Y'all might say that I'm just some small town girl from Tennessee, but no one bothers to ask about my family. I've got a Mama and daddy, as well as three brothers and one three-year-old daughter by the name of Scarlett. Wow, that can keep a girl busy! Of course, my brothers put me in my place when need be and Scarlett is well-behaved and cute as a button, so really I'm pretty fortunate to have such a family, even when I might say otherwise.
Of course, I lived on the farm until I was twenty three, when I brought Scarlett with me to start on a new life in Kentucky after her daddy died. I had been riding horses since I was only a child, and I've been teaching Scarlett how to do the same for a while now. I got plenty of time to practice with Scarlett now that I don't have to do all those farm chores (not that I did any in the first place; I usually made my brothers do them whom were all older than me, them now being thirty, twenty seven, and thirty three.)
By now, your probably wonderin' why I would leave my family and that beautiful home in Tennessee just to teach. Well, here's your answer. I love my students, and horses in general so much that I couldn't resist the opportunity. I know it's probably not as dramatic as you'd hoped, but there's your answer in black in white. It's the truth, and don't you forget that either.
YOU'VE GOT ME MESSED UP AND SO

Cassidy sat in an empty barn in Tennessee, sadly staring at the wooden floor beneath her feet. Even something as simple as a barn floor brought back so many memories, most of which that made her cry just thinking about them. She had been begging her parents not to renovate the old barn for months now, but to no avail. Of course she had. She wouldn't give up that barn without a pretty good fight, and now that it was clear that she had lost, everything became real again. Scary, too.
"Mama, mama!" Her three-year-old daughter suddenly ran into the barn, golden ringlets just barely touching her shoulders. "Look!" She flashed Scarlett a weary glance, but curiously took a quick look at the object in her daughter's hand. It was a circular stone, grey in color. She sighed. Of course it was. Scarlett's new little "hobby" was collecting rocks, and she had about twenty at home already. There was no need for any more.
"Sweetie, go put that rock back and get back to Grammy," she said patiently, nervously glancing at the sun. It was already turning dark, and she was about to call her mama on her cell when she had quickly put it away. It embarrassed her at how "northern" she had gotten, despite the fact that she was still in Kentucky. It did take several minutes to walk to the barn and back to the house, but she knew that as a child she would have thought that this was nothing. After all, she had spent more time with the horses than all three of her brothers had combined. She grasped Scarlett's hand and spoke, her voice barely a whisper. "Come on, girl. If you hurry, you can keep your rock.... But only if you hurry, alright."
The small girl cheered and immediately put the rock into her pocket. "Alright I'll hurry," she said cheerfully. They made it back to the house, minutes before the sky had turned a sullen black. The only thing she could think of in those few minutes she spent walking with her daughter was the barn, and how her daughter would never be able to remember it.
Cassidy had to put up a bigger fight. She just had to. For Scarlett's sake, as well as her own.
