Alex shuffled slowly into the barn, the heels of his boots scrubbing against the hard floor. "Alex? What are you doing here?" Alex rubbed his eyes, a phantom vision of his ex blinded him. She opened the door, a towel wrapped around her. She stepped out, shoving him down the steps of her house. "You can't be here." The woman growled, pushing him with all her might while trying hard to hold the towel together. Alex became wild eyed, bewildered by her actions. What was with her sudden mood change? The confused man's jaw dropped as she continued pushing him to his car. "Get out of here!"She screamed, trying her best to get Alex to leave. He could see the fear in her eyes and pushed her back, "What is Mel? What the fuck is going on with you?" Alex shouted back, face red with anger. The woman bit her lower lip, fear in her eyes as she looked at Alex. His eyes landed on her left hand, a ring studded with diamonds glimmered in the hot afternoon sun. "You've got be fucking kidding me." Alex gritted through his teeth.
The familiar nicker of his beloved Kenya brought the distraught man back into reality. His eyes welted with tears as he wandered over to his mare's stall. Her velvet nose stuck out of the bars, lipping at his shirt. Typical Kenya. Alex laughed to himself as he held a finger at her. He rushed to the tack room and opened his trunk, pulling out a bulk bag of gummy bears. At least horses were easy to please. They didn't require you to bring them roses when it's Valentine's Day. The greatest thing about horses, they don't talk. Alex smiled to himself as he hauled the bag to Kenya who began pacing in her stall as she caught scent of the delicious bears.
He plucked three unfortunate bears from their bag and held the beneath Kenya's lips. She squealed, inhaling all three. Alex laughed, offering the spotted beauty more of the gummy delights. The sound of feet echoed in the barn, alerting Alex. His eyes shot down the aisle he was on. Noone. He leaned back, gripping to the stall's bars for support, "Hullo?"

Cassidy walked to the barn late that afternoon, unable to conceal her excitement. She had gotten a call from Tennessee at two that morning, only to discover that the horse she had gotten when she was only fourteen was perfectly healthy again, thanks to the medicine the vet had given him. She could remember that day she had decided to visit; feeling graceful and as if the she was on top of the world, only to fall flat on her face and end up breaking a leg. Her horse, Sunshine had been spooked to the point that he wouldn't eat, or so she had originally thought. It had turned out that Sunshine had actually sprained his leg, and now she knew that she didn't have to worry anymore.
Cass entered the barn, and jumped when she saw someone else. She had always like the barn because it was peaceful and quiet, and besides, no one ever bothered to come to the barn this late. Still, she tried her best to hide her frown and she walked over to where Riley stood, a beautiful horse that she often preferred to use when out riding. She sighed and flipped her golden blond hair over her shoulder before talking to the stranger.
"Howdy," she said in her southern accent. "How are you this fine day? I never knew that people bothered to come out here this late." She stroked the horse's chestnut colored coat before continuing.
"I mean, I really never see people around here.... I suspect it's because everyone's so busy. What brought you here, anyway?" She smiled. "Name's Cassidy, but everyone calls me Cass."
