Willow was born in the middle of a blizzard, on December 24, the day before Christmas. Her family lived in a small town, and were the richest people on the block. Her mother was a fashion designer, and her father a lawyer, both successful.

She was always the rich kid on the block. Those who knew her, only few were her friends, the others in it for the awesome things her mother would take them to do. Her mother was always more of a parent, her father constantly at work. Her mother was always going to the fanciest parties and taking Willow with her. She'd take her and her friends to the beach anytime Willow asked. She was always Mom's little angel.

By the time she was five, she hardly ever had to lift a finger. If she wanted something, one of the maids would get it. If she wanted to do something, her mother was right there to take her. She always had the nicest birthday parties, the coolest toys, and all the pets she could want.

At the age of 7, she stumbled upon a show on the television about a girl who trained eventing horses. Later that day, she asked her mother to sign her up for riding lessons. Immediately her mother got a champion rider to teach Willow. Of course, a champion found it rather awkward teaching a seven year old to walk on a pony, but she did anyways. By the time she was eight, Willow was kicking but in small shows. She was still riding the little Haflinger she had always been, Cheerio. Cheerio was a 19 year old pony, and he had a good head on his shoulders. He was strong and willing, and didn't give the slightest hint he was slowly getting older. Willow didn't own the pony, her instructor did, but Willow came to think of Cheerio as her own.

Working her way through the shows, she gradually started winning ones she had lost before, and entering the bigger ones. However, Cheerio could only bring her to so large a show. He couldn't jump high, and he was starting to become a bit stiff by the time Willow was 11.

Willow had tried and rejected gymnastics, soccer, dance, and swimming over time. Horse riding was the only sport that stuck.

One day, right after a wonderful lesson, Willow was overjoyed at today's success. Cheerio had come up lame, and she was riding her instructor's ex racehorse mare. She had a wonderful lesson, but still wasn't going to go for the mare over Cheerio, the old horse she had learned to ride on. Cheerio was 24 now, but didn't slow down one bit. When he wasn't lame, of course.

But the time after her good lesson brought bad news. She was stepping in her mother's car to be driven home. Her mother wasn't there. It was the chauffeur. " Your mother couldn't come today... there has been a tragedy Miss Pierce. Your father's plane has crashed." Willow remembers that moment perfectly. Her father and her weren't as close as her and her mother, but she loved her father dearly all the same.

The weeks after that were quiet, and one large blur. She didn't go for her daily riding lessons. Her mother skipped work day after day. Soon, her mother did resume work. They didn't lose money with the insurance and mother restarting her work, but they had lost Willow's father, much more than money.

Willow knew she couldn't hide forever, and she began her lessons again. For two entire years, she went on.

Then came the day. Willow was riding Cheerio on a nearby beach. It was a nice day, and the waves were rather high. Knowing Cheerio wouldn't go anywhere, Willow dismounted. She had worn her bathing suit under her clothes, and decided to swim. She loved tossing in the waves, especially when they were large, which didn't happen as often when it was a nice day. As she had expected, as she dove into the water, Cheerio simply stood on the shore, keeping an eye on her. Cheerio was quite protective of Willow, they had a bond.

Willow, as she swam further out into the waves, got caught in a rip tide. She was never really taught how to handle rip tides, only told, and she wasn't even paying attention. She watched the beach grow farther away, and began to panic. The current dragged her under the waves. This beach was not normally for swimming, but it wasn't prohibited. However, no lifeguards patrolled here. Cheerio began to get worried. Willow called out desperately, hoping the rare occasion would hold a person strolling the beach. But no one was there.

At that moment, Willow chose the time to realize there may be sharks, and everything that possibly moved could be a shark come to rip her to shreds. The rip tide pulled her further out, and she kept seeing supposed sharks, thought most likely none were there. Cheerio was pacing the shore now, trying to figure out how to get Willow back without entering the water, which he could tell was dangerous now. Plus, with his old stiff body and stocky frame, he would have trouble swimming. He whinnied frantically, Willow flailing in the water.

Willow kept screaming. " SHARK SHARK " Every time she spotted her foot kicking underwater. The waves were smaller so far from the beach, but the rip tide tugged her back.

Cheerio could take no more. He charged into the water, frantically splashing about. The water was shallow enough for him to push through and trot it for a while, but he hit a drop and had to swim. He struggled, keeping his head above water, ignoring what had to be stiff pain in his limbs. Willow noticed him and shouted "CHEERIO, NO!!!" The haflinger pony kept coming. The tide got him too, and brought him out with Willow, who grabbed his mane. Together they tried to tug each other towards shore, but fighting a rip tide was no use. Willow got kicked by Cheerio's thrashing legs here and there. She was sure she was bleeding, and her fear of sharks rose high. Eventually she stopped, accepting the fact this was her watery death bed. But she tried to push Cheerio back to swim towards shore, she didn't want the pony to die too.

She kept pushing Cheerio's rump, hoping he'd break the riptide and get to shore. She didn't realize soon she was out as she pushed Cheerio. As he swam back, she still felt she was in the riptide, and hardly even bothered. She was far out from shore still, and Cheerio only a little ways from her as he thrashed back to shore. He seemed to think she was grasping his tail. When he swished it, and realized she wasn't there, he changed his direction "NO!" She had been shouting. Then she saw it. Her stomach clenched and she opened her mouth the scream.

Today even, the scene was so vivid. A gray figure came at fast speed towards the pony. Mouth revealed thousands of spiked little teeth. It caught Cheerio's leg. Why was it so close to shore?! Willow didn't worry about that. She had to save Cheerio. In the midst of all the confusion, she got her ankle bit, but the shark couldn't clamp down, it only bled, and twisted.

She did get Cheerio to shore. His palomino coat covered in blood, and his breathing was shallow.

Later, her mother and a search team found the two in the early dusk, the sun only just disappearing on the horizon.

That night, after a hospital trip, her leg was bandaged up, and she hadn't realized the shark had gotten her back too, that was bandaged too. She was very lucky the shark's tooth only caught her back.

Cheerio however, wasn't so lucky. His leg was just about off, and his flank had a big fat hole in it, a flap of skin hanging out his chest.

Willow knew she should have never swam unsupervised. Cheerio was put down that night. Willow didn't ride for three years. She couldn't, and night after night her dreams filled with the scene.

When she was fourteen, she began helping the instructor care for her horses. But she refused to get on one. That Christmas though, was spent at the barn. The stables had a big party every year. This was the first time since the incident Willow had returned. The party intertwined her birthday as well, seeing as it was the day before.

Something new joined them at the party. A two year old Dutch Warm blood mare. She was a beautiful black. Her training had only just begun, and her name was Ally's Last Dance. Dance for short. Willow tried to refuse this present. She didn't want a horse. No horse would ever replace the plucky little haflinger. But Dance gazed at her. The way Cheerio always had when she had done something that was kind of stupid looking. It was a spirited little look, and it made her seem she was laughing.

Soon, in about a year, she was advanced in her training with Dance. She slowly began working her under saddle.

When Willow was nineteen, she and Dance moved to these areas.
It was only a matter of a couple years when Willow joined Gemara.
