Stable Name: Vegas

Gender: Mare
Breed(s): Frederiksborg
Height: 16.0 hh
Discipline(s): Jumper
Owner(s): Greg Haywood
Personality: Vegas is your typical show horse who is high strung with a lot of energy, however, she is also used to everything and will only spook at something completely new and unseen, which isn’t much. She leads well on lead and can be handled on the ground my even a two year old just learning to walk. She has no horrible or dangerous stable vices but does walk rather quickly when being led out to pasture unless you know how you should lead her and kicks her stall door when it’s feeding time. She’s also known to get cast because she has the weirdest need to roll in her stall every time she’s done being ridden. When on her back, however, Vegas is simply a lot of horse. She has a tendency to freight train and has more energy than she knows what to do. As a jumper she pulls and always tries to speed up and is a very technical ride but once you know her buttons and can figure out how to calm her down and listen to your seat she will frame up nicely and proves to have a lot of scope. She does however have a tendency to knock a rail if you let her mind wander even the slightest bit away from her job as she isn’t the most concerned mare in the world due to her calm attitude about life. She’s proven to be a promising performer in her field and many are hoping to get a few babies out of her in the near future, but Greg and Andy aren’t so sure about that idea.
History: Vegas was born to a rare breeder in the United States. She went through stud book inspections and got her certification on a trip to Denmark and stayed there for many years to be trained. She was trained extensively under saddle and became a very well mannered animal before being sent back over to the United States when her owner put a heavy price tag on her and sold her. She went for more training in the show jumping world, where all the speed got her into the bad habits and tricky riding she now has. However, with the right rider she was always great and went on to many shows with her owner as well as a catch rider mare. When Vegas turned twelve she was snatched up Andy’s trainer when she hit the market in need for a quick sale after her current owner’s mother had to go into the hospital and needed the money for medical expenses. The trainer had Andy ride the mare a few times and it wasn’t long before Andy turned to her father and said “I want her” and that was that. Greg bought Vegas for a very hefty price, probably even more than she was worth, and two years ago, Vegas and Andy became a team. They showed and had fun, each helping the other build. She’s just the type of horse Andy needs and the two made a great team under saddle, even though poor Vegas isn’t given the attention she deserves, though isn’t mistreated by all means. When Andy made the trip to Lexington from California there was no question that Vegas was going with her, but there is a question as to how long the partnership will last and if Andy is going to want a new horse any time soon.
