Madison was born on a working ranch in Southern Ohio, the farm had been in her father’s family for years he was the eldest of three boys and inherited the ranch rightfully. He met Madison’s mother on a trip up to New York in his senior year, it was one of those love at first site things that started with a long distance relationship and ended in Madison’s mother going country. The pair was happily to live together and run the farm with the rest of the family. At age 21 Madi’s father Tim’s parents passed away, along with his youngest brother. The three were in a car accident on the way home from town one day, Tim and Sandy suddenly found themselves alone on the big ranch. Tim’s middle sibling came home and helped for a while but eventually couldn’t take the grief and as a first year in some big film University up in New York he couldn’t exactly take much time off. It was up to Tim and Sandy and the remaining ranch hands to pull the place together. Tim started by selling off almost half of the cow stock, they had 1000 head of cattle left it made for a lot less work than the previous 1900. He focused on his strength, that was ranch horses. The cow’s kept food in their bellies and the bills paid and took up most of the ranchers time but his true passion and extra income came from his ranch horses. They soon became known as the finest working quarter horses around, they weren’t world quality show horses but they were level headed, sane and worked a cow like nobody’s business. The couple had been trying for kids for some time; they got a late start to having children do to the ranch taking up so much time and money initially. Madison’s older brother was born when her father was 36 and her mother 32, he was the new heir to the Clearview land and ranch.
When Madison was born she was tested instantly, her brother had a rare kind of leukemia and at three wasn’t expected to live more than a few weeks. He beat all odds and lived till he was five. They were a happy family, the children spent their days playing in the house with mom or taking care of the farm with dad. They had everything they needed except a cure to Spencer’s horrible disease, when he started to improve at 4 the family had hope. Madi doesn’t remember much as she was only one when things got better. Even when Spence passed away at five the two year old had no idea what was going on. Her folks were crushed, destroyed and tried for another child hoping for a son of course but never managed to get pregnant again. Madison was the new heir to the throne so to speak, her parents loved her dearly but her father always wished she was a boy she saw it in his eyes some days how much he missed her older brother and promised not to let him down, she would take his place and run the ranch she would carry on the Clearview name.
She went to the same school her father had gone to, elementary school was easy. She work up in the morning, did chores ran off to school, came home did her homework, did some more chores, came in for dinner and then helped her mom around the house till bedtime and was up the next morning at the crack of dawn to do it all over. On the weekends she spent all Saturday outside with her father, Sunday morning they went to church then Sunday afternoon she cooked and baked with mom. She played the role of a son and a daughter quite well, her father could never be disappointed in the jobs she did. She never asked for help, got her work done and kept good grades in school. Horses like her father were her passion on the ranch as well, she would spend all day mucking the stables and loved to ride the fence line and move cow from in the saddle. Even when the farm bought a quad she would saddle up no matter the weather and take her ranch pony out no matter what the task was. At seven she got the first horse who was actually hers, she had always helped dad with the horses but this pony was hers. She trained that pony to game and run the barrels like no body’s business; of course her dad was always helping and coaching her. The horse would rodeo on the weekends and work on the ranch during the week she would have it no other way.
At thirteen with her first year of high school under way she sold that pony, and missed him dearly but wanted to play with the big kids on the rodeo circuit. Heza a Little Firebug or Bugz was quite the gelding, home bred and raised and Madison’s favourite from the day he hit the ground. When her father sold her the horse she was certain this was as good as life got. She rode that horse to belt buckles everywhere, barrels were their best event. They were at the top of her high school rodeo team no matter where they went, then like a good ranch horse should Bugz would come home and be a ranch horse to earn his keep. Madison loved the horse, loved him dearly but decided at seventeen she needed to sell him and buy herself a jumping horse. Her folks were shocked, though it all made sense for the past few years her high school marks had gone to shit, she was never a straight A student but she had managed to pull off B’s with the occasional C. They had assumed the new trend of C’s and D’s were due to the difficulty of work and amount of time she spent working on the ranch. What they didn’t know was her library study sessions and weekends at friends were actually riding lessons at a hunter jumper stable across town. For two years she had been paying for lessons with rodeo money, had earned the offer of a working student position that had a live on property option.
Of course she wanted to go, she wanted to sell Bugz to buy herself a new horse there was a cute little hunter she could afford if Bugz sold for the money he was worth on the barrel circuit. Her father was furious, said no flat out while her mother was hesitant to voice her opinion. She knew what it was like to leave what you loved behind, she was a New Yorker living on a ranch, she had been destine to be a dancer but given it all up to follow her lover and enjoy his dream. So when Madison packed her bags, left her horse and home her father told her never to come back while her mother dropped a kiss on her forehead and promised her they were only a phone call away. Madison worked hard in that first year, with her mother’s help unknown to her father she managed to make it all the way to the Maclay finals and whether it was fluke or not that she managed to win the thing she did it. She was sought after by a few barns, snagged a few assistant trainer positions but refused to let herself settle. She managed a few show barns, picked up a few project horses and flipped them along the way. When she was 23 she got a call from her mother, it was usual they talked weekly little to her father’s knowledge. This call was unlike any other, her father had been killed in an accident on the farm. Not only was her father dead leaving her mom to run the place, apparently he had racked up quite the debt that Sandy had no way of paying, unable to manage the ranch she didn’t want Madi to feel she had to. She had signed the sale papers that afternoon on Madison’s uncles suggestion, Madi was furious but managed to snag one of the four year old colts before he got sold off too. Madi helped her mom deal with things, watching Bugz load on to the trailer of a pro barrel racer was probably the second hardest thing after her father’s funeral of course. Madison helped her mom find a home, settled her in, accepted her income from the sale of the ranch and decided she had to get the hell out. She packed up her two horses and applied for a university in Lexington, Kentucky. She has been at school for two years now, she finished her high school equivalency and is currently taking her Bachelors in Stable Management and is looking into starting her Bachelor’s in equine science next year. Madison has managed a few barns and groomed for many show barns, she is just doubling back now that she has the resources and can afford it to get her education before taking a bigger job on.

The drive had been harmless, relatively silent and quite comforting really. The man knew his way around town, or it seemed like he had the basics down, then again Main street was well – the main street in town. Though as she sat perked on the passenger seat of his truck she smirked, patient as ever she let the man make up his own mind, well not really but for all intensive purposes it was his decision to come in. When he agreed she smiled and turned to open the truck door, careful getting out it was a bit of a drop and she didn’t want to end up on her ass – that was the last thing she needed, then again it might replace her visit to the chiropractor and save her a few bucks. Walking carefully to the houses front door she opened it but waited till Damian and the dog were well on their way to step in, she let them in before closing the door behind them and kicking out of her boots. The front entrance wasn’t huge, so with the three of them she felt slightly crammed in but once her boots were on the mat with her other shoes she slipped out past Damian and the dog to reach for a light switch. His words rang out the moment before she flipped the switch and caught her off guard, she had never even amused the thought that she might have invited them in for something but have no power to prepare it. Though as the lights flickered on she let out a relieved smile and looked to Damian and Bourbon wearing it on her sleeve.
“Yupp apparently we have power, which is always nice seeing as I invited you in for something warm.”
Smirking she started to peel off her own coat, looking around the house she double took to make sure nothing was too out of place or embarrassing, the girl was neat when she wanted to be and her house reflected that. When people came over she usually had it spotless but when friends popped in there was the small chance that things weren’t quite so organized but today thankfully the place was clean. She had kept the decoration simple, dark woods and light walls – some framed photos of horses past and wins to be remembered was the art on her walls and above the small fireplace a mantle was home to her trophy’s for public view in the living room. The one’s that were up there were those dear and close to her heart, so there was a whole bunch of high school rodeo stuff on one half and then her first big win’s with her first few hunters and then the most recent title with Gia was up there too. Freshly dusted and shiny she was proud but not flamboyant, besides the pictures hung on her walls it was the only real reminder on public view of how well she had done in the past. His words were simple, short and sweet – well from Damian anyways.
“Thanks, it’s not a mansion or anything but it suits the purpose wonderfully.”
While she would love to lead a lavish lifestyle in a big fancy house the girl knew it wouldn’t be practical and figured it would only make her feel more lonely with the few hours she got to spend in it a day. Giving Damian a moment to peel off shoes and a coat she offered to take it from him and hang it in the closet before hitting a few more light switches and making her way to the kitchen, motioning for the dog and man to follow she racked her brain about what she could feed the pair. Drinks were easy, she had coffee and a few variations of tea along with some hot coco mix and then the usual juices in her fridge. She had already decided she was going to have a hot chocolate and bailey’s – her personal favourite warm beverage and it would help her sleep. As for food she could whip up some grilled cheese, or scramble some eggs or throw together something simple along those lines. Her sandwich’s were always great, it was something about the Clearview women and their ability to make a great sandwich that was consistent in each generation – house guests and boyfriends past had only ever had compliments for her delicious lunch time treats. Turning to Damian she gestured for him to take a seat at one of the tall chairs along the island, there was a table behind him but this way he could see her and talk to her if he wanted while she was making whatever he wanted to eat and drink. The woman started by filling the kettle with tap water as he sat down, she placed it back on the stand and flipped it on so they could get warm drinks as soon as possible. She grabbed a metal bowl used for baking and filled it with water and placed it on the floor by the end of the island in case the dog was thirsty. Then her voice rang out in question,
“So what can I get you to eat and drink, I’m going to have a hot coco and baileys with a grilled cheese but I have coffee and tea as well and the fridge is pretty stocked right now too so I could throw something else to eat together too.”
She was far from a professional chef but Madison knew how to make a good balanced meal, she was used to cooking for herself but she wouldn’t suffer through delivery food so learning to cook was the only option. At first it had been on a strict wage as well so her lifestyle regarding food had never been lavish, hence her love for simple but healthy dishes. Though with the steady job and pay check Madison had taught herself more technical dishes but usually didn’t have the time to cook them, so her average meal was quick but healthy and balanced and her sandwiches usually featured whole wheat or brown bread. Looking up to Damian she leaned on the counter that was lower and across from where he sat, smiling she waited for his decision as she wouldn’t send him away without a beverage and some kind of food – and then there was Bourbon. The dog had been so well behaved that Madison almost forgot about her, again she spoke.
“Oh and Bourbon the good spoiled girl she is, I almost forgot about her. Anything in my kitchen you think she can have?”
Madison didn’t have dog treats but she had some simple grain crackers, and some leftover dinner in the fridge. There was chicken from last night and then deli sandwich meat as well, both turkey and ham. Madison didn’t know what the man was willing to feed his dog as some were sensitive to human food, the ranch dogs back home had never been allowed to beg for scraps but never reacted badly to anything Madi or her father had snuck them. Standing there in the house with Damian made Madison slightly homesick, it was nice to have company even if they might be slightly unwilling to receive your hospitality. With Bourbon close by and Damian’s company Madison was instantly homesick, her house was a nice place but it was far from a home.
