It was time. He knew it was time to work on the horses that he had brought with him from England. They had been cooped up in their stalls for a day or two and it was time they got out to stretch their legs, plus, Landon really wanted to ride. It had been most then a week since he sat in a saddle and cantered around an arena and that felt like an eternity for the young man. Riding was his stress reliever and he really just needed to sit in the saddle and feel at home again. Being in the saddle on a horse was his home. His horses were his only family. Landon barely ever saw or heard from his parents because they cared more about their job then their own son. Landon resented them for that and barely talked to them. Part of how he felt for them was the reason he left England. He needed to get away and just have his own life, not like he hasn't done that for almost his own life now. But now it was real. He was out on his own. Shaking his head, ridding the thoughts that were flurishing in his mind, he walked to the door of his dorm room and put on his riding boots. He needed to get down to the stable and clear his head, these thoughts were doing him no good. With that he grabbed a jacket and quickly made his way down to the barns, heading towards his mares stall, Heartbreaker of Love, or Love for short.
Once he walked into the barn the familiar scent of hay and horses swarmed his senses. He gave a small grin to himself as he heard the familiar sound of Love. She was anxious to get out of her stall and making quite a rucus. Landon walked up to the mares stall and was greeted with a snort and a nicker. "Hey there pretty girl." He pat her on her muscular neck and rubbed her velvet nose. Landon could tell she was ready to get out. Love hated being cooped up for too long. He would ride her today and possibly the other two but he would start out with his girl.
He grabbed her halter hanging on the hook close to the stall door and clipped it to her leather halter. Opening the gate, Love hurried out in a rush. "Woa, easy girl." He held her for a moment letting her calm down stroking her neck. When she had calmed down he tied her to the loop next to the stall and began to groom the mare. She was a clean mare and he didn't have to worry about much, just cleaning her hooves out. Landon then made his way to the tack room and grabbed his dressage saddle, bridle and some leg wraps. He walked back to the dutch warmblood mare who was waiting patiently. Landon chuckled and set the wraps down and then placed the saddle on the mares back, cinching it up. He moved to put the bridle and Love easily took the bit. He then grabbed the leg wraps and put them on each leg of the mare. She had a habit of being lazy and clipping her heals.
Landon lead the mare towards the indoor arena. He was going to work on some dressage today, get Love limbered up and used to the arena. This was different then the places they went in England and he wanted to let her get used to her new home. Once the two were in the arena and so far the only ones, he cinched the saddle a little more and then hiked a foot up into the stirrup and pulled himself up on top of the mare. Letting out a sigh, Landon relaxed in the saddle. Oh how it felt so good to be back ontop of a horse. He leaned down and stroked the mare lightly and then raising back up again he straightened and pressed his heals into the mares sides and she began to walk. He would take it slow.

Alex treaded lightly into the arena astride his leopard mare. Kenya was feeling good today and Alex felt he should let her out for a ride after her nasty run in with laminitis. The poor mare was out of work for almost two years due to the damned thing. There was a point where Alex felt that Kenya would never recover completely from being dead lame and that she was doomed to life as a sore pasture puff or worse. His heart ached for the mare and was at his last string. Yes, Alex's family had money but they couldn't afford to go and spend it on a horse who didn't compete or behave very well on a regular basis. Alex's father was losing faith in Kenya's battle with the nasty disease and was ready to pull the plug on her vet bills and "let nature take it's course". Of course, Alex being the fighter he is, refused to let Kenya's flame go out without a real battle. Long story short, the mare conquered her battle with laminits and is now completely sound.
Kenya began jigging at the walk, anxious to get going. Alex warned her, "Take it nice and steady girl. We'll be going soon enough."Kenya's ears laid against her head, disagreeing with her rider's decision to start slowly. She had fire in her heart and wanted to just go but Alex kept a firm, soft hand on the reins, holding the mare back from what she desired most.
The young man's eyes landed on the other rider in the arena. Alex looked to make contact with him, waving. He was sure that the boy knew Alex was now in the arena, but he wanted to make extra sure. It appeared that the other man in the arena also had the full intentions of taking his ride slowly. Alex was sure that they both had separate reason for why they were starting their rides of the day slowly.
The spotted mare snorted viciously, begging Alex to release the reins and let her go. Alex ached, knowing how badly she wanted to run with him. "Soon girl, I promise. We can have one run after our work out."He leaned into her mane, massaging the roots. Kenya soon forgot about why she so annoyed with Alex and began lipping the air, attempting to groom Alex.

With the whole moving in to her apartent thing, which she still had to unpack a few boxes, she'd been pretty stressed. Moving had never been very appealing to her and up to this point she never had to. She had lived in the apartment above the family stable, Someday Farm. Just the thought of the place she grew up caused a slight ping in her chest. She was feeling a bit homesick from the lack of constant contact with the horses that she raised, trained, and loved. Thankfully, she had KC here with her. He had been her horse for the past few years and she was completely infatuated with him.
He was her best friend and show partner, a mighty fine one at that. They had many a championship under their belt and counting. Speaking of KC, that was what had dragged her away from finishing moving. Romy Jaeger couldn't resist being away from horses for more than a day or two. She was glad that her job as an instructor allowed her to do so. She couldn't wait to get students.
As soon as she had come through the entrance of Gemora's stables, she heard a familiar whicker; not low, but not squealy either...just right. A broad smile appeared on Romy's face as she ducked into the tack room to grab his tack and groom bag. Seeking out KC from the long rows of stalls, she was greeted with another vocalation, this time a more indignant one. The gelding was not a happy camper for having been stalled up so long. You could practically see the cogs rattling through his brain, a clear sign that he was going stir crazy. After propping the saddle and bridle caregully ontop of the saddlepad on the floor, she unlocked his stall door. Siddling into his stall, halter and line in hand, making sure to block him from scootching passed out the door.
Slipping the halter on his well chiseled head, she strung the chain through the noseband for extra control just in case. Draping the lead line over his neck, she grabbed a soft brush from the tote, running it quickly over his smooth chestnut coat. He was clean except for a manure stain on one of his socks, but she wasn't concerned about that at the moment-he would get a bath later or tomorrow. His feet had a bit of manure in them as well as well as a mystery stone, so she cleared it out and untangled his mane and tail. Satisfied that he was ready for his work out, she moved on to saddling him. She put his splint boots on and saddled him carefully, taking note to leave the girth on a hole looser than usual so he was comfortable until she got on.
KC played with the bit awnrily when he got his bridle on, rolling in on his tongue before leaving it be. It was a tom-thumb-a generally disliked bit due to its harshness but she had purchased him trained with it. It wasn't as if she frequently used reins anyway. Once he was fully tacked, they both made their way to the indoor arena. It was a game for KC the whole way. He pranced beside her, tossing his head, and once they made it into the arena, he swished his tail furiously and half-reared. "Hör auf! Stop being an idiot." Romy scolded him instantly, approaching him with stiff movements.
He backed up quickly in response and she stopped him as soon as he lowered his head in submission. Tightening his girth and mounting up, she straightened up and shifted her position in the saddle. Scanning the arena, she took note of two others and made sure she kept tabs on them the whole time. Tapping and rolling her spurs upward she recieved the response she was looking for; KC tucked his head and moved out, collecting himself. Landon liked times like these, secretly anyway. He liked just casually walking with his horse and enjoying just being out there. He began to wonder where he had gone wrong. Why did he become so competitive? He knew it was because of his parents. The young man blamed everything on them. It was all their fault for making him the way he was. However, sometimes he was glad he was the way he was. He didn't have to worry about getting hurt like his parents hurt him. He pushed everyone away and made others not want to be around him. Yes, Landon lived in a lonely world, but sometimes its just for the better, or at least thats what he thought. He only needed his four legged friends. They didn't judge. They did not hurt you, on purpose anyway. They loved you unconditionally, something his parents never really did. Sometimes Landon just felt like maybe he wasn't suppose to be here, maybe he was a mistake. You ever feel like that? Landon feels like that everyday.
So that is where his riding came in. It was his excape, his way out. He could forget about everything going on around him and focus on just him and his horse. This is why he put so much time and effort into competing, it was all he had. Most people did not understand this and he wasn't about to go tell his life story just to try and explain to people. He was his own person now, living in the United States, away from his parents. He was on his own so to speak. Landon was so happy to be somewhere new and have his three best horses with him. He couldn't wait to get praciticing and competeing again, it was the only thing that made him happy, at least so far.
As Landon and Love walked around the arena, he heard someone else come in and his eyes shifted towards the new duo. Waving in return, Landon gripped the reins on Love a little tigher and then gave a nodd back to the guy across the arena. He watched the other for a moment and then looked back infront of him. He pressed his heals into Love's side again and she immediately went into a collected trot, pretty and soft. Love had such a flowing stride that she looked beautiful whenever she moved. All of Landon's attention was focused on Love until he heard the other horse fussing about. Wondering what was wrong he continued to ride on rounding a corner, when his attention was then turned toward a new figure entering the arena.
The girl entered the arena and as they entered her horse half reared and spooked Love. Her ears pinned to her skull and she let out a shriek and half reared as well, sliding to a stop in the loose dirt of the arena. Tossing her head she came back down, Landon holding on with his legs yet his nerves were calm. The sudden outburst of fear shook through the mares body as she stood stock still. "Easy girl." Landon softly stroked the mares neck to settle her. Loves breathing rather rapid still. Landon's eyes shot towards the girl giving her a nasty look and then turned Love in the other direction and moving her into a trot again. "Damn people and not being able to control their horses." His voice was angry but he took a deep breath and tried to relax to help Love relax.
